Mediterranean diet


We all know the great benefits of the Mediterranean diet. It is a balanced diet that is recommended for the control of obesity and maintaining cardiovascular health of our body, a characteristic that give the place one of the best and most complete diets in the world.

The Mediterranean diet provides varied and balanced based on natural and traditional products from the lands near the Mediterranean Sea nutrients.

Staple foods are fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, fish, olive oil and put in place to bring in more moderate amounts fats, eggs and poultry mainly.


There is a recent study (Fuente; Trichopoulou A, Costacou T, Bamia C, Trichopoulos D. (2003) Adherence to a Mediterranean diet and survival in a Greek population. New England Journal of Medicine 348:2599-2608) in more than 22,000 people in Greece who were classified according to the level of consumption following the traditional diet in the style of the Greek Mediterranean diet.

During the 4 years of the study it found that these people who followed the traditional diet were less likely to die from cardiovascular disease or cancer. That is, they have 25% less likely to die during the study period than those who did not.
